Thursday Night Reflection
Emma Lauria
Something I have contemplated was if I should study for tests. Most of the time I know the material but sometimes you just need extra time to review. When teachers say that students will have a test later in the week, students tend to instantly get a tad nervous and sometimes overwhelmed. If you are like me, tests aren’t my favorite thing to do in school and some teachers don’t tell you what’s on the test. I am a person who generally gets worried about tests but sometimes I wonder if it’s worth my time. Sometimes I am confident with the material and don’t study but then I do poorly on my tests. Then other times I study and don’t do well either. So I think what’s the point of studying if I will just do bad. And what’s the point of telling us there is a test if teachers won’t tell us what’s on it? They might as well surprise us the day. Anyways, I contemplate study for the tests I have during the week every time a teacher has a test planned. I usually start to worry about my grade so studying seems like the better option but on the other hand if I know the material, what's the point. My weeks get pretty stressful with all the worksheets and homework but adding the fact I have 5 tests this week and it’s Tuesday would stress anyone out. Since I have all of these tests, I should be studying all the time but the thought of not studying and seeing how I will do is always crossing my mind. Maybe instead of studying I can do other homework or go to bed early because those are some things I have to either not focus the most attention on or don’t do. I try to balance out my study time so that I will have enough time to go to bed on time and do other things but sometimes it gets overwhelming. Most weeks I usually have 5 tests in every class, so I usually have a busy week most of the time. For me Studying is the top priority I am currently enrolled in AP Government and politics and even before the class started, I knew that we would have a lot of tests and quizzes. The problem with me is that I don’t like to take test and I don’t like studying even more than that. As the class went on, I found it more difficult to stay focused and study because some chapters we learn I am simply not interested in so when it came time to study, I thought I could just wing it and rely on my knowledge from the review that day. Turns out that doesn’t work the best and it’s not how I was going to maintain my grade of A. I knew that as I kept putting off studying every night that I eventually not do it at all, so I told myself that I needed to change and I have. Since then, I have studying for every single test and quiz and now are receiving the grades I want.
